CMS Choir students Stephan Walker and Briana Cisneros Ortiz, under the direction of Mr. Zachary Shoemaker, traveled to Wichita last week to perform in the KMEA All-State Middle Level Honor Choir. After a competitive audition process, they were among just 180 students selected statewide for this elite ensemble. Their achievement is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and a proud moment for our district’s music program!
8th graders started Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom in their ELA classes this week. In the media center, we had a book tasting at the CMS Cafe and ‘tasted’ other aspects of the Civil Rights Movement including MLK, other famous activists, books and events. Some videos, some puzzles, books and a lot of information!
Congratulations to the new inductees to the National Junior Honor Society! These students excel in scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character, and community service. Our newly inducted 7th grade students are: Rayan Albadarin, Rayne Alfaro, Anthonique Brown, Elijah Campbell, Ellie Congleton, Abigayle Creed, Jaxsun Knight, Blyss Mcconnell, Elizabeth Min, Amelia Thompson, and Eli Wing. This week, CMS Counselors and some eighth grade students stopped by 5th grade classrooms to speak about what a typical day of middle school looks like! The students were also informed on what classes would be offered for their upcoming 6th grade year. Remi and Lulu got lots of extra pets from the future 6th graders. We can't wait to see you next school year!!
Student leaders from Clark Middle School visited 5th graders across USD 204 to help them prepare for their big transition to 6th grade! 🎒✨ They shared advice, answered questions, and gave a sneak peek into what middle school life is all about. 🏫👏 Adding to the excitement, the middle school's famous furry friends, Remi and LuLu, who serve as School Companion Dogs, joined the visit, bringing plenty of tail wags and comfort along the way! 🐶

CMS Red Friday!
Mrs. Snyder's ELA class playing a game using vocabulary words from their book, A Long Walk to Water. Students had to match the picture to the definition. Then they worked together to unscramble the letter tiles to spell the word. The kids did a great job and they had a great time!
On Wednesday, February 5, the CMS Scholar Bowl team competed at the Paola tournament against 10 other teams. The 8 person team consisted of 6 -eighth graders and 2-seventh graders. They answered questions about Science, English, Social Studies and other subjects to end up with a record 6-4 and a 5th place finish for the first tournament. Next competition is February 18th at Ottawa.
We will be on a two-hour delayed start today, February 5th, due to morning road conditions.
On the adjusted schedule, elementary schools will start at 10:30 AM, while secondary schools (CMS & BSHS) will begin at 9:45 AM.
At McDaniel Preschool Center, there will be no AM half-day classes, with full-day classes starting at 10:15 AM, and PM half-day classes following their normal schedule.
Head Start will also begin at 10:15 AM.
Buses will run two hours late, and breakfast will not be served.
Y Care will not operate during morning programs, but will run in the afternoon.
